|Almost certainly not, according to an intellectual property lawyer. You might have heard that the legality of so-called “fully-loaded” Kodi boxes has become a hot topic recently. In the meantime, such devices are widespread in Europe. Can people get into trouble for using them? Let’s see.
If you don’t know, Kodi is an open-source media player that can be tweaked to grant access to pirate content. It is still unclear whether streaming content via Kodi is outright illegal, but the prominent British IP lawyer believes that you have nothing to fear if you are using one of such devices. He acknowledged that there were some ongoing cases in the United Kingdom which involved suppliers of the top-set boxes enabling users to get around copyright protection. The lawyer also noted that there have been cases against file-sharers, but it is different when it comes to streaming versus file-sharing. Why so? Because copyright owners today pursue the ISPs and platforms offering pirate content, rather than the individual people. This makes sense, as the copyright owners are more likely to restrict access to free content rather than go to war with their own fans.
In the meantime, FACT chief acknowledged that piracy was an ongoing problem that wasn’t going to be solved easily. He revealed their Kodi strategy, admitting that they will be pirated no matter which actions FACT takes. However, they try to achieve a deterrent effect on people watching sellers, providers and distributors of these pirate boxes going to prison and fearing to follow them for using such boxes at home.

I have one of these, honestly.....they aren't all that great. First thing was how crappy the remotes were, next was just how out of date they were. And if you're looking for live tv, they are like the old 80's satelites where you're constantly chasing a code for a channel.
By the concepts and ideas thrown down here, by all rights any OS that can run Kodi or VLC for that matter (considering all the functions from Kodi are already in VLC) would be illegal......So we're outlawing media players now??????
Thanks for info SAM

@n2master yup those cheap chinese kodi boxes suck.. I tired a few different ones but i ended up just getting a Fire TV and installing kodi on it.
@BSTM05 yeah, i regretted them ever since getting them and would've much rather gotten a pi and installed kodi on it that way. Even the PC version of kodi, hell even the XMBC4Xbox is better than them cheapo amazon "free internet tv" box deals. Best thing that came with it was the wireless keyboard/mouse combo i got. The boxes themselves, sneeze the wrong way, they'll even revert to factory settings. Tried to get them live channels working, ended up being a nightmare to be honest.

I'm not too sure about the content owners going after the little guys. Remember the RIAA going after anyone and everyone for d/l songs. This established judicial precedent so it would take little effort to go after the little guys again. Luckily for now it is just easier to shut down sites than take people to court.
Why does the film industry gets so butt hurt over "pirated" content when it seems about 90% of the crappy films being made now are all remakes of a film that's already been made one or more times..?
A small sample of what I found in a Ask Jeeves search
* King Kong has two remakes, in 1976 and 2005.
* 12 Angry Men has three remakes, two foreign, one American.
* Here Comes Mr. Jordan has two remakes, Down to Earth and Heaven Can Wait.
* The Last Man on Earth has two remakes, The Omega Man and I Am Legend.
* Invasion of the Body Snatchers has three remakes, in 1978, 1993, and 2007.
* The Jazz Singer has two remakes, Michael Curtiz directed the first one, and Richard Fleischer directed the second.
* Miracle on 34th Street has two remakes, in 1973 and 1994.
* Night of the Living Dead has two remakes, in 1990 and 2006.
* Piranha has two remakes, in 1995 and 2010.
* The Poseidon Adventure has two remakes, in 2005 and 2006.
* The Shaggy Dog has two remakes, in 1994 and 2006.
* A Star is Born has two remakes, the 1954 version directed by George Cukor.
* Stagecoach has two remakes, in 1966 and 1986.
Hollyweed can eatus a dickus
n2kmaster they are crap for out live but for watching TVprogs / Films exodus is great add on for that
I hate KODI. Maybe because I've had no luck on them. But a lot of those Kodi Streaming sites is outdated and does not work. They'll work one day and then a week later - no.

Google "Micheal Seo" or "Koditips" specific sites for more up to date info on addons.
I have a few andriod boxes with no issues for movies / tv shows / some live sports.
For "Builds" Ares Wizard good for those who want a one shot does all in a couple minutes.....
No issues as most addons i use self update.
I have used a Pi and the boxes i have seem better for kodi then it is.
I use a Matricom brand box plus a Nexbox A95x box ( starting to prefer the Nexbox though )
Those who suggested stuff for the boxes to me, the only thing i've gotten to work (took a bit of fighting tho) was the SuperRepo. For that person who had the same issues with the live streams as i did, thats EXACTLY what its like, codes good today are crap tomorrow. I use them as a streamer for a storage bin pc here instead. There are a handful of others that i've gotten to work, best i could find was Crackle.
Believe it or not, them crappy remakes are the best reason ever to start looking at the "B movie" companies for decent releases. Some of these new off market movies have been better than the multimillion dollar "block busters" to be honest.

For me, Kodi is awesome. Sure It's rubbish for Live TV but for Movies and TV Show Box Sets, It is amazing. There are so many shows I wondered if it's any good and now I don't need to bother downloading to find out if It's rubbish or good, just a few clicks on Kodi and a moments patience cycling through the screens and you know the answer. Then when you find a good show, you can watch as many episodes as you like with no download time just instant, bang, there it is. I know SOMETIMES movies can be behind, but not by much, Usually a movie that is here or another site, look on Kodi and you will find it there the same day or rarely the next. I love Kodi for Movies and TV Shows, it is Free, Instant and all in one place, amazing.
(Opinion) For now, I would suggest you think of your Kodi boxes as if you had a car, it's winter time and you didn't get the "proper tires" for the season. You got pulled over by an officer and depending on your statement, he will write you a ticket or simply verbalize you and have it mention on his today-report. Every officer is different depending on the country, town, regulations, and how much money the city needs (true). You can either use your car properly, change to the appropriate tires or enjoy the ride for now... Your choice. Your spending and at some point in time will be someone else earnings... lol

Alot of bad reviews in this comment section.. Maybe the boxes are shit but kodi in itself is amazing.
I have never had any issues you just have to know where to look and find the proper addons, this is not popcorntime and not for absolute beginners.
I have access to basicly all movies and tvshows that have ever been made.
Documentaries, standup shows, sports..
And i have all the TV channels i could ever want there is so much content if you find the right addons, you will never be able to see it all.
